Summer Camp Fun
Meet Ms Shay
Shay Myers Heward is a dancer, choreographer, and screendance artist whose work is rooted in story, movement, and lived experience. She began her dance training at age 15 under the direction of Christopher Fairbanks in San Antonio, Texas, where she performed a lead role in the San Antonio Texas Jubilee. Her training spans ballet, jazz, contemporary, modern, tap, clog, ballroom, and hip hop—each style shaping her voice as an artist.
From 2010–2012, Shay toured throughout Texas and New England as a member of the Brigham Young University–Idaho Dance Alliance Company, serving as Student Rehearsal Director during her second year. She also spent four years with BYU–Idaho’s Contemporary Dance Company, performing, choreographing, and student-directing original works.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology with a minor in Dance, Shay moved to St. George, Utah, where she helped found and later became the Artistic Director of Moxi, a contemporary, hip hop, and jazz dance company. During this time, she also performed with St. George Dance Company.
Drawn deeper into the language of movement, Shay returned to school to earn a second bachelor’s degree in Dance Performance from Southern Utah University, receiving both the Outstanding Scholar and Outstanding Performer awards. She later completed graduate studies in Screendance at the University of Utah, where her passion for the intersection of movement and film continued to unfold.
With over 15 years of teaching experience, Shay has guided dancers of all ages—from young children discovering movement for the first time to professional company members. She believes dance is not only a technical discipline, but a way of listening, expressing, and becoming.
Beyond the studio, Shay is a mother to four little girls and is building a homestead with her husband, Casey. She finds inspiration outdoors—hands in the garden, books nearby, meals in the making—embracing the beauty and chaos of a life lived fully.
